I had the privilege of sitting down with Florian Schütz, Head of Switzerland's National Cyber Security Center (NCSC) for an eye-opening conversation about how Switzerland really protects itself in the digital age.

🔓 𝗢𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗕ü𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗸 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Switzerland coordinated police, intelligence, private companies, and foreign entities through a digital platform to defend against nation-state DDoS attacks. The real challenge? Managing public perception, not just the attacks themselves.
💡 𝗢𝗻 𝗦𝘄𝗶𝘁𝘇𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱'𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲: "When I'm in other countries, I see this is really an advantage of the Swiss system. If I have a question for a company, I can call the CEO... We might not agree, but quite often we do."
⚠️ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝗱𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁: 75% of Swiss companies make less than CHF 500K/year and can only invest CHF 2,500-7,500 in cybersecurity. Constant attacks aren't just a security issue - they're systematically driving down GDP and competitiveness.
🎯 𝗢𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘃𝘀. 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: "Breaking something is less difficult than actually building a system that works as expected. The really cool job is to build a system that resists tampering."
What struck me most: Florian's vision isn't about building walls - it's about enabling people and organizations to protect themselves while maintaining Switzerland's core values of trust, democracy, and neutrality.
The future of cybersecurity isn't just technical. It's economic, geopolitical, and fundamentally human.
